You can put two or more labels on one email to simplify navigation even more. Labeling is like putting colored stickers in a big worksheet - you just mark the page so it differs from the others. You can create folders to group some similar emails. It’s important to remember that the system doesn’t make any copies of the labeled email, so if you decide to delete one - it will disappear from your Inbox at all. When you click on the standard label or the one that you created, Gmail performs a search, filters all the matching emails, and shows a set of results. All the labels have self-explaining names - Inbox contains incoming emails, while Sent includes messages that you send. To understand how they work, let’s have a look at the standard Gmail’s labels like Inbox, Sent, Spam, and so on. Gmail changed this method of message storing - now it’s all about labels. ![]() We all are used to creating good old folders when it comes to organizing some files. You definitely don’t want to scroll looking for that plane ticket right before the airport check-in. Moreover, you can quickly find the labeled emails even if they were sent a month ago. This eye-catching feature makes navigation through your inbox much easier. For instance, you can bring letters that deal with travel matters into one folder, and put a blue label ‘Traveling’ on it. It feels intuitive to group things into folders, but labeling is a perfect match for emails. Even if you don’t receive dozens of emails a day, you know that it’s easy to lose that one important message among the spam.įortunately, you can structure your Inbox, and make it look uncluttered. It’s so good to keep things organized, and it gets better when organizing is simple. In this article, we’ll assume that these are equivalent notions. So don’t be baffled to see ‘folders’ referred to as ‘labels’, and vice versa. Since we are used to this convenient name - folders - we keep on calling this message storing type like that. Note: Actually, Gmail folders are not folders per se, they are called labels, even though they perform a very similar function. Fortunately, Gmail has the solution for this - you can create folders to organize your emails. It’s easy to get lost and miss some really important information. It isn’t surprising - Gmail is a leading online email service worldwide with more than 1.5 billion active users.Īs we receive lots of emails daily, it gets hard to control that chaotic flow of information - work, friends, traveling, receipts, news. "I've never met anyone that played it just for fun," Cryptobarbarian said of Axie Infinity, "only to make money."īut Axie Infinity doesn't represent the future that many Web3 developers envision for gaming. Play-to-earn titles such as Axie Infinity prove the point they're not games as much as they are financial speculation with the veneer of a game. The fear is that crypto and NFTs will deform gaming into a side hustle, transforming its purpose from entertainment to moneymaking. The same monsters that cost hundreds of dollars last year now fetch under $10. But thanks to a combination of poor in-game economics, inflation threatening the real world's economy and a $600 million hack reportedly caused by a fake job posting, the price of Axies and the game's Smooth Love Potion cryptocurrency collapsed. Axie Infinity was a hot ticket in CryptoTown, generating over $15 million a day last August. (CNET wasn't able to verify his purchases.) A longtime crypto investor, Cryptobarbarian told me he bought $30,000 worth of Axies and loaned them out in return for 40% to 70% of the profits. The game allows Axie owners to lease out their monsters to other players, however. At its peak of popularity, bottom-tier Axies cost around $350 each, meaning playing the game once required a four-figure investment. Accessing it is free, but you need to buy a team of three Axies to play. From there, he said, Axie Infinity became purely about making money.Īxie Infinity is a browser game. "It was fun for the first few weeks, but it gets boring really fast," the 28-year-old said. Chris, who declined to give his real name and goes only by the pseudonym Cryptobarbarian, felt he could justify playing video games again - as long as it paid. Players can also breed Axies, then either sell or battle with them. ![]() A cryptocurrency called Smooth Love Potion is earned by battling these Axies. It's built on the blockchain.Īxies are the Pokemon of Axie Infinity, but they're owned as nonfungible tokens, or NFTs. That sounds like hundreds of other games, but one element distinguishes Axie Infinity. Inspired by Pokemon, it's a video game about training and battling monsters. Axie Infinity promised something different. He was once an avid gamer, playing hours of League of Legends every day, but stopped after deciding he was sinking too much time into an unproductive hobby. LE burned most of the value at the beginning, but LS burned similar amounts throughout the event. The moment Chris saw Axie Infinity, he was hooked. The temporal patterns in value burned are also distinct between the two events. Although LS had more high-usage participants, LE burned around 4.2X more value than LS, simply by having no barrier to entry. We estimated the value burned for LE using the daily axie floor price and the value of SLP and AXS burned for LS. A key economic metric is the token value burned during crafting, which can be estimated as the opportunity cost of selling on the market. So the power law constants are like the net sum of the compounding incentives and disincentives in the mechanism.Īs an economic imperative, a game developer has to capture value from in-game activity, such as crafting. Eg: Lindy walk, 80-20 rule, Pareto distribution ![]() In a power law, the more you do something, the easier it gets. Eg: The more you flip a coin, the harder it is to get all heads. In an exponential distribution, the more you do something, the harder it gets. So theoretically, if you kept the event going, the users wouldn't stop.Įven further, power laws are produced by a class of mechanisms different from those that produce exponential distributions. Interestingly, distributions with a constant < 2 have such heavy tails that they have no average. But these power laws tell us more than just that. ![]() ![]() ![]() MullenLowe U.S., the brand's new creative agency of record, and executed the platform launch, while Publicis Sapient was appointed for global digital and social strategy. The Orange has pesky Richmond as its first foe at the 2022 Empire Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y., and then the ‘Cuse could possibly face St. On paper, I believe this to be the toughest non-conference encounter for Syracuse basketball. In super early prognostications from national pundits and bracketologists, Illinois looks to be a fringe top-25 team and a solid No. Its lone true road contest is at Illinois for the annual ACC-Big Ten Challenge. In the non-conference, the Orange will play a ton of home games. ![]() That doesn’t mean the ‘Cuse is going to sport an 11-0 mark, but hopefully, Syracuse basketball can pile up some non-conference triumphs.īy the way, the complete 2022-23 schedule is at the bottom of this column. Let’s dig a little deeper into the Syracuse basketball calendar for the upcoming term.įirst up, I’ll note that the Orange’s 11-game non-conference slate, on paper anyway, seems much less difficult than in 2021-22. Of course, on paper doesn’t mean a single thing once games start getting played, and we all don’t know at this point just how “good” the current Orange roster is, particularly taking into account what the ‘Cuse did (or didn’t do) last year, and the many new faces within the squad’s line-up for 2022-23. #SYRACUSE BASKETBALL FULL#Recently, the Atlantic Coast Conference and SU Athletics gave us the full 2022-23 schedule for Syracuse basketball, and I have to say, on paper, it doesn’t appear to be hugely scary. The Orange’s roster is significantly revamped, with a six-member 2022 recruiting class and a big-man transfer coming to the Hill, although at the same time the ‘Cuse does bring back several veterans to lead the 2022-23 line-up. The 2022-23 season for Orange hoops will commence in early November, and the ‘Cuse will look to rebound after a disappointing 16-17 record a stanza ago. I know that we’re all knee-deep in excitement over the strong start by Syracuse football this term, however, before you know it, Syracuse basketball will be ready to roll in its upcoming campaign. ![]() ![]() ![]() The virtual machine does not require a public IP address or a “NAT rule”, but it’s still SSH/RDP. AZURE BASTION WINDOWSYou sign into the portal, click Connect and use the Bastion service to connect to a Linux or Windows virtual machine via SSH/RDP in the Portal. In this case, Bastion is a service that is accessible via the Azure Portal. In case you don’t know this, a bastion host is another name for a jumpbox – an isolated machine that you bounce through. AZURE BASTION CODEThe solution requires you to either disable NLA in the guest OS (boo!) or to hard code a username/password with local logon rights for your guest OS’s into the Guacamole server (double-boo!). It’s a HTTPS-based service that allows you to proxy into Linux or Windows virtual machines via RDP or SSH.Īll looked good until you started running Windows Server 2016 or later in your virtual machines and you needed NLA for secure connections via RDP. Also, you are limited to 2 RDS connections per jumpbox without investing in a larger RDS (machines + licensing) solution. You could combine JIT VM Access, but now normal daily operations are going to be a drag and I guarantee you that people will invest time to undermine network security. So in the remoting protocol vulnerability scenario, you are still vulnerable at the application layer. Unfortunately, it’s still straight RDP/SSH into a machine that is directly accessible on the Internet. You remote into a jumpbox, and from there, you remote into one of your application/data virtual machines. They are isolated into a dedicated subnet. This is an old method – a single virtual machine, or maybe a few of them, are made available for direct access. ![]() And the way JIT VM Access manages the rules now is wonky, so I would not trust it. So, if it’s all set up right, you deny remote access to virtual machines most of the time. When you need to remote onto a VM, an NSG rule is added for a managed amount of time to allow remote access via the selected protocol from a specific source IP address. It modifies your NSG rules to deny managed protocols such as RDP/SSH (the deny rules are stupidly made as low priority so they don’t override any allow rules!). JIT VM Access is a feature of Security Center Standard Tier. AZURE BASTION PASSWORDIf you have supported end user VPN then you know that it’s right up there with password resets for helpdesk ticket numbers, even with IT people like developers. The clue is in the maximum number of simultaneous connections which is 128, way too low to consider as an end user solution for a Fortune 1000, who Microsoft really do their planning for. The real reason that we have point-to-site VPN in Azure virtual network gateway was as an admin entry point to the virtual network. There are ways that you can secure things, but they all have the pluses and minuses. And if the recent scare about the RDP vulnerability didn’t wake you up to this, then maybe you deserve to have someone else’s bot farm or a bitcoin mine running in your network. If you enable Standard Tier Security Center, the alerts will let you know how bad pretty quickly. Just opening up RDP or SSH straight through a public IP address is bad – hopefully you have an NSG in place, but even that’s bad. Remember: for 99.9% of customers, servers are not cattle, they are sacred cows. You need RDP or SSH to be able to run these machines in the real world. ![]() Most people that are using The Cloud are using virtual machines, and one of the great challenges for them is secure remote access. Microsoft has announced a new preview of a platform-based jumpbox called Azure Bastion for providing secure RDP or SSH connections to virtual machines running or hosted in Azure. ![]() |
